About Laila Durán
Laila Durán, photographer, author and publisher, was born in Fredrikstad in Norway. She grew up among the fabrics in her mother's and grandmother's work shop and started early to sew her own clothes. The interest in textiles has followed her throw life and she have had bussiness doing wholesale both in fashion textiles and historical textiles. In her search for historical fabrics to reconstruct Laila Durán would constantly come in contact with Nordic folk costumes through the museum collections. Therefor in 2010, she decided to make a series of coffe-table-books with the theme Scandinavian folk costumes that resulted in the series “Scandinavian Folklore”. The aim was to capture the audience that normally does not have a lot of knowledge on the subject, but who gladly embrace the abundance of rural culture available in the costumes - by looking at the beautiful photographs and read short summaries.
In 2015 her next book KRONBRUDEN (The Crowned Bride) will be published. The book is a bonanza of the most spectacular bridal costumes in rural Scandinavia, some of them where used centuries ago and some are still used following the living traditions of bridal folk costumes. Text in english, norwegian and swedish.
